Health and Fitness on a Budget

One of the benefits of spending many years as a student are learning how to live a healthy life on a budget. Here is a list, especially for those who say that it is too expensive to live a healthy life. Here is an important factor.

Say goodbye to breakfast cereals packed (whole grain even), they are inexpensive, nutrient poor and difficult to digest. Soak your oatmeal (organic preferably) night to reduce the antinutritional wicked (see grain - friend or foe article) and add the yogurt / mixed/dried nuts coconut.
Eggs - they are an inexpensive alternative to meat. "They are pretty much all nutrient-rich, we have yet discovered" (Nourishing Traditions). Quality makes a difference, so choose free path better (organic).
Brown rice is delicious, economical and the highest of all grains in B vitamins. It also contains iron, vitamin E and protein. Soak overnight as for all grains. An excellent alternative is wild rice which is not a grain but a seed of a native American plant. It is rich in protein, B vitamins and minerals. Both are low in good fats, so remember to eat with butter to reduce the Glycemic Index (increase rate in the blood levels of insulin).
Always cook extra with leftovers in mind. My leftover dinner increase usually for lunch.
Walk - Park the car further, bear the additional races little and don't forget to take the stairs instead of the elevator.
